Jason
Overall, President
Jason
Overall works in tonal design and project development. His
main duties involve coordinating the various design components on proposals,
acting as the main contact on new projects and working with the staff voicer on
onsite tonal finishing for new instruments.
Mr. Overall also oversees various advertising and promotional efforts as
well as assists in Goulding & Wood’s active service department.
Mr. Overall began organ study while in high school under Dr. Nancy Ypma at McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois. He went on to study organ with Dr. Charles Tompkins at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition/Theory cum laude. After graduating, Mr. Overall studied at the Florida State University, receiving a Master’s of Music in Composition under Dr. John Boda and continuing organ study under Dr. Michael Corzine. While at the Florida State University, he completed courses in organ design and instrument history.
Mr.
Overall is also organist/choirmaster of the Episcopal Church of All Saints and
has served in Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian and Episcopal congregations.
He is a member of the American
Guild of Organists and the Association of Anglican Musicians.
Brandon
Woods, Vice-President
Brandon
Woods is the firm’s sole voicer for all pipework, including flues and reeds.
Duties include tonal design on new instruments, final specifications for
all new pipework, voicing of all pipework and leading all onsite tonal
finishing. In 1969, Mr. Woods began employment with the firm of E. H.
Holloway, Inc. concentrating in the fields of maintenance and tuning, later
becoming the main voicer on staff. Mr.
Woods joined the staff of Goulding & Wood, Inc. in 1984 and has voiced all
new instruments and renovations since that time. These projects have varied widely from new chamber
instruments in chapels to large organs in reverberant halls and historical
restorations of significant instruments. Prominent
jobs include the new 96-rank organ at Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral in New
Orleans, the Æolian-Skinner organ at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, the
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
In addition to his responsibilities with new instruments, Mr. Woods has
overseen the service department of the firm since 1984.
Mark
Goulding, Secretary-Treasurer
Mark
Goulding serves as Project Manager and Shop Supervisor, working closely with the
shop personnel in the fabrication and installation of all projects.
Mr. Goulding began employment with the company in 1986 where he
apprenticed under his father, founder John Goulding.
In 1994, Mr. Goulding became superintendent of the windchest department,
overseeing the layout and construction of the electro-pneumatic
slider-and-pallet windchests used exclusively by Goulding & Wood, Inc.
In preparation for these duties, Mr. Goulding also worked in the
windchest department of C.B. Fisk, Inc. of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
He has served as general shop superintendent since 2001 and has overseen
all onsite installation since 2002. Mr.
Goulding is a member of the American Institute of Organbuilders and the American
Guild of Organists.
Kurt
Ryll,
Design Engineer
Kurt
Ryll provides casework and mechanical design and detailing, working closely with
the architects, builders, committees, musicians, project managers, and Goulding
& Wood’s shop personnel in the design, fabrication, and installation of
all projects. Mr. Ryll is
instrumental in the development of the visual design of each instrument, taking
great care to incorporate key elements of the surrounding room.
He studied at the Indiana University Herron School of Art and Design,
graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts concentrating in fine woodworking and
furniture design. While active as a
self-employed custom woodworker in southeastern Alaska, Mr. Ryll won two design
projects for the Wrangell Alaska Public School System that included design,
construction, and installation of artwork on school campuses.
Since this time, he has been active for over twenty-five years in the
Indianapolis area as a custom woodworker, draftsman/designer, research and
development manager, and project manager. In
addition, Mr. Ryll maintains an active home studio where he continues to build
custom furniture and speaker cabinets.
Robert
Duffy, Master Craftsman
Robert
Duffy designs and builds casework for all new instruments, including carving of
ornament and statuary. Mr. Duffy
studied at the University of Texas before pursuing work full-time as a
harpsichord builder. He worked for
several years at the firm of Hubbard Harpsichords, Inc. of Framingham,
Massachusetts, where he served as Musical Finisher. From there, he worked as cabinet maker with Eric Herz of
Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Duffy
began working with Goulding & Wood, Inc. in 1986, overseeing the production
of all casework, consoles and wooden pipework.
Since that time, he has designed and built facades in a wide variety of
styles, including Contemporary, Federalist, Gothic, Tudor, and Baroque.
In addition to his activities at the organ shop, Mr. Duffy continues to
operate Robert Duffy Harpsichords from his home shop, where he builds a variety
of historical instruments as well as period furniture reproductions.
Goulding & Wood, Inc. employees an additional eight people in various cabinetry and clerical roles.
